The Amazing Mirvana

Travels, and makes stuff.

How toys become real…

Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand. ~the Skin Horse (from The Velveteen Rabbit)

That’s me. I’d say I’m sorry to disappoint you, but I’m not. I excel at not giving a shit. Experience has taught me that interest begats expectation, and expectation begats disappointment, so the key to avoiding disappointment is to avoid interest. A=B=C=A or whatever. I also don’t have a lot of interest in being a good person or a bad person. From what I can tell, either way, you’re screwed. Bad people are punished by society’s law, and good people…are punished by Murphey’s law.  So you see my dilemma. ~Georgia (Dead Like Me)

I don’t want to come to the end of my life and find that I have just lived the length of it. I want to have lived the width of it as well. ~Diane Ackerman

Music was my refuge. I could crawl into the space between the notes and curl my back to loneliness. ~Maya Angelou

I co-own and operate a Web retail business that sells military, tactical, and survival gear – http://www.darkthreads.com. I used to make and sell corsets, bellydance clothing, and sewing patterns under that name, but not so much anymore. Now, it’s mostly military uniforms, sci-fi, and fantasy stuff for cons, but I still nurse a love for historical period clothing. You might see me at MegaCon, Origins, GenCon, DragonCon, and other big events vending our gear.

I played violin (and some other stuff) for an experimental electronic ambient group known as Nyarlathotep, The Crawling Chaos–that’s a reference to the works of HP Lovecraft and the Cthulu mythos. I also performed with Patricia Wake–the most awesome singer-songwriter I know, and a few other acts in the Pittsburgh area – from Irish pub bands to Turkish classical and gypsy/folk music. I was featured on two tracks of the Attrition tribute release, Wrapped in the Guise of my Friend, available at http://www.attrition.co.uk. I don’t play out so much anymore.

I studied tribal fusion bellydance and taught classes for many years. I don’t do that so much anymore (at least not in public), either. Here’s my old dance journal: [info]mirvdance.

My other interests include airsoft, milsim, Pennsic, movies, photography, knitting, karaoke, and trying new things.

My beloved cat, PITA is remembered eternally on his own journal: [info]pita_the_cat.
