The Amazing Mirvana

Travels, and makes stuff.

An Update from Las Vegas

If you’ve never been here, you have to see it at least once. You will either love it or hate it. There is something for everyone here. People from all around the world come here; it is one of the most international places that I’ve ever been. There is a lot of collossal fake stuff here, like an Eiffel tower, the Manhattan skyline, Venetian canals, an erupting volcano…each year, there is more collossal fake stuff that is even bigger and more over-the-top than before. It’s amazing how fast they build the new hotel/casinos and attractions. The Forum Shops at Ceasar’s Palace have a huge new addition with a spiral escalator, and now the monorail runs all the way from the MGM to the Sahara. It looks like they are building a huge new hotel next to the Venetian called, Wynn, which has a new golf course attached. Where there was once barren scrub desert, they just plopped down acres of green grass and palm trees and sandtraps. It is rumored to be the most expensive hotel on the strip.

So, today, I checked out the Fashion Show Mall and that was cool. There is a place in the center of the mall where, at show time, a runway and stage raise up from the floor, and models are raised up from beneath the floor on an elevator, and they have a real fashion show. I was impressed. I also watched them feed the penguins at the Flamingo. Last night, just went to the Nine Fine Irishmen pub in the New York hotel, and then went to the brew pub in the Monte Carlo with some colleagues. Tonite, we are planning on going to the Hoffbrauhaus (a replica of a famous restaurant in Munich), and then just hang out at Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville. What I really want to see before I go is Quark’s bar and grill at the Las Vegas Hilton, and also go on the Star Trek experience ride. Maybe tomorrow night. I was also thinking of hitting Studio 54 at the MGM, but I’m told the lines have been really really long all week. I might pass on that. Trying to have some fun here, but I just can’t wait to get home.
